Recca leads Sharks on All-PacWest Team

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific senior Pomai Recca leads the HPU contingent on the 2016 All-PacWest Conference Volleyball Team chosen by the league coaches and announced today by the conference office.

Recca led the Sharks as she was named first team, while junior Lea Felton and freshman Amanda Acosta were named honorable mention.

Recca, the 5-9 senior outside hitter from Waimanalo, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama, rewrote the HPU record book with her play in 2016.

She closed the season last Friday with 504 total kills, second in the PacWest and currently eighth in NCAA Division II. Her average of 4.27 kills per set that ranks fourth in the PacWest and 14th in NCAA Division II. The kill average is eighth on the season list for HPU. She also posted 422 total digs which is eighth in the conference and in the top 185 nationally. Her dig average of 2.96 per set is 11th in the PacWest. She also averaged 4.79 points per set, ranking third in the PacWest and 15th nationally. She recorded 20 double-doubles this season and was named the Sports Import/AVCA National Player of the Week during the week she posted 31 kills at Notre Dame de Namur.

Recca set new program career records for kills with 1,591, and sets played with 437. She played in all 111 HPU matches during her four seasons, starting all but one. She also played in all but three sets that HPU played during her career.

Recca has been named to the All-PacWest Team in each of her four seasons, gaining first team honors for the first time.

Felton, a 6-2 junior middle blocker from Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis, collected her first All-PacWest selection with the honorable mention. Felton led the Sharks and ranked third in the PacWest Conference with her .321 hitting percentage. She ranked fourth on the team in total kills with 157 and was second on the team with 75 total blocks.

Acosta earned her first All-PacWest Team honorable mention. The 5-6 freshman from Exeter, Calif./Extra Union, started at libero in all 29 matches for the Sharks. She led the team with 465 digs, fifth on the HPU single season list. She ended the season ranked fifth in total digs in the conference and 146th nationally. She ranks ninth in the PacWest and 203rd in Division II in digs per set with 3.94.

The Sharks finished the season at 17-12 overall and in third place in the PacWest Conference with a 13-7 mark. It's the best season overall since a 17-11 record in 2013 and equals the conference record from 2014. The third place finish is the highest conference finish since HPU was third in 2010 with a 12-4 league mark.

The Setter of the Year is California Baptist junior Sydney Kralij and the Libero of the Year is Point Loma senior Christin Fisher.
