HONOLULU (March 28, 2016) – World-renowned painter Brendan Murphy, a former standout basketball player on Hawaii Pacific's 1993 national championship squad, recently teamed up with HPU to create a work of art symbolizing the university's importance to him.
Murphy unveiled the painting, which he called "Wonder of Expectations," at the HPU athletic department's S.H.A.R.X. Benefit on Feb. 23 at Hawaii Pacific University's Aloha Tower Marketplace, during which the school also honored its 2015-16 Hall of Fame Class presented by Wealth Strategy Partners. After playing professional basketball in Germany's Bundesliga, Murphy returned to the United States to paint professionally and now has work represented in more than 500 private collections, museums and galleries worldwide.
"I consider myself lucky to have had the chance to attend Hawaii Pacific University," said Murphy. "My education from and experience at HPU paved the way for me to see the world and follow my passion. I am honored and flattered to create a painting for my alma mater, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to contribute in any way I can. I hope I can bring smiles and happiness to the HPU campus and students."
