IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific sophomore Perla Escobar was named to the 2017 All-PacWest Conference Volleyball Team chosen by the league coaches and announced today by the conference office.
 
She was named to the third team and was the only HPU player selected to the team.
 
Escobar, the 5-9 sophomore outside hitter from Calexico, Calif./Calexico, led the Sharks this season and played all over the court.
 
She led HPU with 264 kills on the season, averaging 2.90 kills per set. She led HPU with 21 service aces on the year, was second on the squad with 232 digs (2.55 per set) and tallied 18 blocks. She played front line and back, including wearing the libero jersey.
 
Escobar recorded five double-doubles of kills and digs this season and posted season highs of 22 kills against Biola on Sept. 30, and 18 digs versus Simon Fraser on Sept. 8. She also tallied a season high four blocks at Chaminade on Oct. 20.
 
The Sharks finished the 2017 season last weekend with a 7-21 Toverall record, 5-15 in PacWest Conference play.
 
The conference also announced its special award winners, most going to unbeaten PacWest Champion California Baptist in its final season as a Division II member. Lauren Hackett of CBU was chosen PacWest Player of the Year, with Madison Witt the Newcomer of the Year, Sydney Marks the Freshman of the Year and Sydney Kralj the Setter of the Year. Biola's Tess Van Grouw was named Libero of the Year and Cal Baptist's Branden Higa was honored as Coach of the Year.
