HONOLULU – PacWest Conference Champion Hawai'i Pacific University jumped two positions to No. 3 this week in the two major Division II women's basketball polls released Tuesday.
The 25-1 Sharks (20-0 in the PacWest) are at the highest spot in program history at No. 3 in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, and the Division II Sports Information Directors' poll. On a 21-game winning streak, the Sharks are ranked in both polls for the 11th consecutive time this season.
The two polls are aligned in the top three positions. Drury (Mo.) (27-0) is the top team, receiving 14 of the 23 first place votes in the WBCA poll and all 16 first place votes in the D2SIDA poll. Ashland (Ohio) (27-0) is second, receiving the other nine first place votes in the WBCA poll, with the Sharks at third.
The WBCA poll has Grand Valley State (25-2) fourth and Alaska Anchorage (27-2) fifth. The D2SIDA poll has Texas A&M-Commerce (25-1) fourth and Adelphi (25-2) fifth.
The second five in the WBCA poll has Lubbock Christian (23-3) and Texas A&M-Commerce tied for sixth, Indiana (Pa.) (24-2) eighth, Lee (Tenn.) (24-2) ninth and Adelphi 10th.
The D2SIDA sees it Grand Valley State sixth, Alaska Anchorage seventh, Lee eighth, Indiana (Pa.) ninth and Belmont Abbey (25-2) 10th.
Fellow PacWest Conference member Azusa Pacific (23-4, 17-4) is 16th in the WBCA poll and is receiving votes in the D2SIDA poll.
The Sharks close the regular season this week with a game this evening (Tuesday) at Chaminade at 5:30 p.m., then host Senior Day against Hawai'i Hilo at The Shark Tank. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
