SAN DIEGO — Hawai'i Pacific University closed its PacWest baseball series with Point Loma getting swept by the Sea Lions 5-0 and 2-0.
The Sharks (11-7, 1-5) dropped all four games in the series to Point Loma (10-3, 4-0).
HPU managed just six total hits for the twinbill, scattered among the lineup.
The Sharks stay in Southern California for another PacWest series as they face California Baptist starting Thursday.
Game One
The Sharks got off to a bad start and ran into a red-hot pitcher in game one.
Point Loma got all five of its runs in a five-hit first inning that saw a pair of doubles and a trio of singles.
Then HPU was iced at the plate by Sea Lion pitcher Trevor Abshire who allowed only two hits to the Sharks. Abshire struckout eight, walked one and hit two HPU batters. The Shark didn't get a man to second base until the ninth, when pinch hitter
Tyler Van Stone was hit and advanced on a passed ball.
Sharks freshman righthander
Blake Flint of Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season. In going the distance, Flint allowed five runs, all earned, on 10 hits with two strikeouts.
Game Two
It a classic pitching duel, Point Loma beat the Sharks 2-0 in the seven inning second game.
HPU senior righthander
Kyle Detwiler of Chandler, Ariz./Mountain Pointe (1-1), allowed six hits and two runs in suffering his first loss of the season.
Point Loma's Stephen Young scattered four hits in going the distance with two strikeouts.
The Sea Lions strung together a single and double in the second for one run and got a solo home run from Ryan Garcia in the third.
The Sharks got three to second, but couldn't get any farther.
