No. 19 Sharks fall at No. 18 UC San Diego 6-3

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 19 Hawai'i Pacific University men's tennis team dropped a tough 6-3 decision to No. 18 UC San Diego on Wednesday afternoon at Northview courts.
 
The Sharks (0-4) dropped their fourth straight match, while the Tritons (5-2) picked up their second win of the season against HPU.
 
HPU was swept in the doubles points, and split the singles points with the Tritons.
 
UCSD took the dominating 3-0 lead by claiming all three doubles points. UCSD's Marc Isaia and Sreeganesh Manoharan won in tiebreaker at No. 1 over Maxime Gayte and Gerardo Irrarrazabal 8-7 (10-8). Eric Tseng and Justin Zhang rolled through the Sharks Juan Erro and Benjamin Loccisano 8-3 at No. 2, while Eskil Jarlskog and Neil Tengbumroong handed HPU's Adrian Elduque and Jack Lyttle an 8-3 loss at No. 3.
 
Tseng, ranked 21st nationally, downed the Sharks 27th ranked Loccisano 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, then Tengbumroong won at No. 6 over Elduque 6-2, 6-0 to guarantee the win.
 
The Sharks came back with 46th ranked Irrarrazabal beating Isaia 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 and Gayte upsetting 39th ranked Zhang 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2. Erro followed with a 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-3), 10-5 win at No. 5. Then UCSD claimed the final point in extended play at No. 4 as Jarlskog beat Lyttle 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 18-16.
 
The Sharks are back on the courts on Friday when they visit unbeaten and No. 6 Azusa Pacific in an 11 a.m. HST (1 p.m. PST) match.
