PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men's tennis team was swept by third ranked Columbus State 9-0 at West Florida's Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The Sharks (1-11) lost for the second straight match, while the No. 3 Cougars (19-3) won their seventh straight match.
HPU dropped all three doubles points, with CSU's 16th ranked duo of Zach Whaanga and Alvaro Regalado won at No. 1 over
Gerardo Irrarrazabal and
Maxime Gayte 8-2, with KP Pannu and Matei Avram downing
Benjamin Loccisano and
Juan Erro 8-1 at No. 2 and Shao-Yu Yu and Arnold Kokulewski taking an 8-6 win over Jack Lytle and
Adrian Elduque at No. 3.
The Cougars swept the singles points without dropping a set to the Sharks.
Second ranked Pannu of CSU defeated Gayte 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while 26th ranked Whaanga beat Loccisano 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2, and 62nd ranked Regalado downed Irrarrazabal 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. The Cougars Paul Sprengelmeijer beat Lyttle 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, as Avram got by Erro 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, and Jorge Vargas clipped Elduque 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
HPU wraps up its Florida weekend trip on Sunday against Valdosta State at the Carson Tennis Complex.
