KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – No. 15 Hawai'i Pacific University chalked up a second straight win in as many days in sweeping Holy Names 7-0 on Sunday morning at the Houla Tennis Center.
The Sharks (2-0) controlled the match against the Hawks (0-3) in gaining the victory.
The Shark gained the doubles point with HPU taking the No. 2 doubles with
Cheng-Chieh Wang and
Lukas Bauer defeated Giovanni Fragalle and John Giesberts 6-2, and No. 3 with
Benjamin Loccisano and
Ondrej Ctverak winning 6-2 against Valintin Baranyi and Javier Luque. The only set HNU won in the match was at No. 1 doubles with Hugo Colpart and Alex Vinee-Munoz ripping Valentin Masse and
Maxime Gayte 6-1.
The Sharks did not drop a set in singles play, led by No. 31 Masse beating 37th ranked Colpart 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Ctverak won at No. 2 over Vinee-Munoz 6-4, 6-4, and Loccisano winning 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
Gayte won No. 4 against Luque 6-4, 6-1, with Bauer claiming No. 5 over Baranyi 6-3, 6-2 and
Lucas Poock beating Philip Achenback 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Sharks play their third and final match at Houla when they take on No. 10 Hawai'i Hilo in an early season top-10 showdown. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
