HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University softball chalked up two victories on Monday against Marymount California of the NAIA in games classified as exhibition for HPU at Sand Island Park.
The Sharks won game one 5-2 and the second 8-4. The games did count on the record of the Mariners who fell to 2-3.
The Sharks were led offensively by freshman
Leipua Kaui of Kapa'a, Hawai'i/Kapa'a who was 3-for-5 on the day, including going 3-for-4 in the second game with four RBIs. She walked twice in the first game. ). Junior
Sierra Dias of Mililani, Hawai'i/Bishop Gorman was 3-for-3 on the day, with three runs and an RBI with three walks. Senior
Tiana Cantero-Kawelo of Wahiawa, Hawai'i/Leilehua went 1-for-2 in both games, scoring a total of four runs with an RBI.

Jordan Curry of Farmington, N.M./Farmington, got the exhibition win in the first game, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and four walks in five innings. Senior
Alexis Morales of San Diego/Mater Dei Catholic picked up an exhibition save in the first game with two innings without a run or hit and two strikeouts. She then hurled a complete game to win the second exhibition contest allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
The Sharks collected three runs in the bottom of the first against Marymount, with freshman
Noel Saunders of Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City using a two RBI double, followed by an RBI single from freshman
Brandi Leong of Wahiawa, Hawai'i/Leilehua.
After runs by MCU in the second and third innings, the Sharks got insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double from junior Brazzlyn Tovio-Asato of Kapolei, Hawai'i/University Lab and an RBI single from freshman
Hailey McKim of Linn, Mo./Linn.
The Mariners threatened in the top of the seventh, getting two on before Morales struck out the final two batters for the 5-2 win.
Game two saw the Sharks score in the first on a Dias RBI double, but HPU didn't score again for awhile.
The Mariners took the lead in the fourth inning on Makenna Boyle's two-RBI double down the line for a 2-1 lead.
The Sharks rallied in the bottom of the fifth, getting two on for Kaui to drive them in with a two-RBI double down the left field line to retake the lead at 3-2.
HPU broke the game open in the sixth with five runs with RBI singles by Cantero-Kawleo and Saunders, a two-RBI single from Kaui, a sacrifice bunt from Leong to score Saunders.
The Mariners added two runs on a throwing error in the seventh, but Martinez forced two ground outs to end the game and give the Sharks the 8-4 exhibition win.
The Sharks open PacWest Conference play on Friday afternoon when they face cross-town rival Chaminade in a doubleheader at Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
