KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i – No. 4 Hawai'i Pacific University swept neighbor island foe Hawai'i Hilo 5-0 on Monday morning in action at the Houla Tennis Center.
The fourth ranked Sharks (3-0) and the Vulcans (2-3) left two positions unfinished when a light rain brought an end to the match.
HPU swept the doubles point losing only one game.
Elisa Elhadj and
Elodie Busson won at No. 1 over Anouk van Hoek and Carmelle Joyner 6-0,
Mihoki Miyahara and
Heloise Le Normand took No. 2 against Marina Colvee Debrot and Irena Le 6-1, and Debora Echeverriea and
Sarah Ikioka triumphed at No. 3 over Hina Nishida and Gabriela Aguilar Lawlor 6-0.
Busson led the Shark attack in singles, winning at No. 1 over Colvee Debrot 6-2, 6-4, with Miyahara rocked van Houk 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Ikioka downed Le 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, while Le Normand was the first in at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nishda.
In the two unfinished flights, HPU's Echeverria led Joyner 6-4, 5-4 at No. 3, and Ballach was on the way to split sets against Aguilar Lawlor 5-7, 4-1.
The Sharks are idle for two weeks until the travel to the mainland to face sixth ranked Academy of Art on March 6 in a neutral site contest at UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif.
