SAN ANTONIO – No. 16 Hawai'i Pacific University finished its 12-day, 10-match mainland trip with a 4-0 shutout of St. Edward's (Texas) on Saturday at the Annemarie Tennis Center.
The 16th ranked Sharks (10-1) snapped the Hilltoppers (10-4) nine match winning streak.
The Sharks picked up the doubles point, while all singles players moved up a position and knocked off two nationally ranked players.
Maxime Gayte picked up the biggest upset, moving up two positions to No. 3 singles and beat 11th ranked Chase Bartlett 6-1, 6-4.
Benjamin Loccisano needed three sets to beat 50th ranked Luis Dias 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. The Sharks clinched the match with
Jonatan Lundahl beating Mateus De Col 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
Three singles matches were unfinished with splits sets at No. 1 singles with
Ondrej Ctverak up 6-3, 5-7, 3-2.
Lukas Bauer was up 7-5, and at 6-6 in the second set against Gabriel Zuniga at No. 4, while
Lucas Poock was trailing Logan Buignet at No. 6, 5-7, 6-3, 5-2 when called.
The Sharks Gayte and Valentin Masse beat Sriniketh and Bartlett 7-6 (7-2) at No. 1 doubles, while Bauer and
Cheng-Chieh Wang beat Diaz and Chase Morehouse 6-3 at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles went unfinished as Loccisano and Ctverak were tied with Zac Robinson and Andre Mercado 6-6 (3-3) when the point was won.
The Sharks will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Division I Oral Roberts at 10 a.m. at Ala Moana Park.
