HONOLULU – No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University opened a five-match homestand with a 7-0 shutout of California Lutheran on Tuesday afternoon at Ala Moana Park.
The No. 5 Sharks (8-3) snapped the 10-game winning streak of the Division III Royals (10-2) and did not lose a set.
The Sharks won all three sets in doubles in taking the point, led by
Elodie Busson and
Elisa Elhadj at No. 1 as they took down Nicole Alvarez and Joann Taylor 6-4. The next two sets finished at the same time as Mikhoki Miyahara and
Nicole Ballach beat Lilijana Semak and Christie Kurdys 6-2 at No. 2, and
Sarah Ikioka and
Debora Echeverria defeated Sarah Seeman and Carolina Groff 6-3.
The Sharks made it a clean sweep in singles as well as No. 7 Busson won at No. 1 singles against Semak 6-4, 6-2. No. 54 Elhadj claimed No. 2 against Seeman 6-1, 6-2, and No. 73 Miyahara beat Kurdys 6-1, 6-2. Echeverria won at No. 4 over Alvarez 6-0, 6-1, Ikioka took No. 5 against Brennan Foreman 6-1, 6-3 and
Heloise Le Normand was triumphant at No. 6 against Groff 6-3, 6-1.
HPU is back on the court on Tuesday at 10 a.m., facing Division I Santa Clara at the University of Hawai'i Tennis Complex.
