HONOLULU – No. 9 Hawai'i Pacific University closed its opening weekend with a 7-0 victory against Division III's No. 24 California Institute of Technology on Saturday evening at Punahou School.
The Sharks (3-1) lost a doubles flight, but not the point, before sweeping the singles against the Beavers (1-2).

Loccisano bounced back to take No. 1 singles over Shanker 6-2, 6-4 as the first position completed. Ctverak did the same at No. 2, beating Wei 6-4, 6-1. Arai beat Matthew Gonzalgo 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, with Panik taking Kevin Yu 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4. Poock defeated Will at 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No. 6, and Wang won in a super tiebreaker at No. 5 against Zou 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9).
The Sharks are off until Monday, Feb. 3, when they host Division I Saint Mary's (Calif.). First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Kailua Racquet Club.
