OAKLAND -- Hawai'i Pacific University sophomore Cole Mayeshiro threw a complete game, four-hit shutout to beat Academy of Art 5-0 in PacWest Conference play at Laney College Field on Monday night.

Mayeshiro (1-1), a right hander from Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani, struck out five and walked only one batter in the nine innings. Senior Joe Gallagher of Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo was 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer in the win.

The Sharks ( 7-9, 3-6) handed the Urban Knights (4-13, 0-1) their first PacWest loss and extended ART U's losing streak to seven straight.

The Sharks were the first to strike with a single run in the opening frame. Harris scored on a ground out by Joe Gallagher of Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo to give HPU an early advantage.

The Sharks added another run in the second on a double by senior designated hitter Jake Selco of West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real, followed by a sacrifice bunt by senior Matt Tsutomi of Pearl City, Hawai'i /Pearl City. A ground out scored the run making it 2-0.

In the eighth, HPU plated two more runs on double from Coffey followed by Gallagher's third round-tripper of the season.

The ninth saw the Sharks final run as freshman shortstop Nicholas Jio of San Diego/Scripps Ranch took advantage of a wild pitch.
