KAILUA, Hawai'i – No. 8 Hawai'i Pacific University posted a 7-0 shutout over Dominican on Thursday at the Kailua Racquet Club.
 
The Sharks (10-5) and Penguins (5-5) played the match before the PacWest Conference suspended the season until March 30.
 
The Sharks did not drop a set in the action on Thursday in playing out all seven positions in the match.
 
HPU swept through the doubles for the opening point. At No. 1, Mihoki Miyahara and Marleen Tilgner downed Ofelia Lopez Camarena/Taylor Lim 6-4, then Elodie Busson and Heloise Le Normand beat Kaitlyn Nguyen/Michelle Li 6-3 at No. 2, and Sarah Ikioka and Nicole Ballach used a tiebreaker at No. 3 to defeat Alexandria Rogers/Nicole Bermudez 7-6 (7-4).
 
The singles were a clean sweep also.
 
The closes match was at No. 1 where Busson beat Nguyen 7-6 (8-6), 6-2. At No. 2, Tilgner downed Lim 6-0, 6-2, while Miyahara at No. 3 defeated Kamar Alajeely 6-0, 6-2. Ikioka ruled at No. 4 over Li 6-1, 6-2, while Ballach triumphed at No. 5 against Haley Garcia 6-1, 6-0 and Jayme Waites won at No. 6 against Sierra Shackelford 6-1, 6-1.
 
This was the last match for either team until at least March 30 because of the suspension of competition due of the COVID19 pandemic. The PacWest Conference membership will determine the future of the 2020 season and championships by the suspension date. The NCAA has canceled all winter and spring sport championships for the season.
