UH Hilo Takes Twinbill From Sharks

HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University returned to baseball action after a three week layoff to drop both ends of a PacWest Conference doubleheader at Hawai'i Hilo 8-1 and 4-3 at George & Marion Hall Campus Stadium on Saturday.
 
The Sharks (0-6, 0-2) and Vulcans (2-3, 2-0) opened PacWest Hawai'i play with the twinbill.
 
While game one was all UH Hilo, HPU came back strong in the second game.
 
The Sharks fought back to tie the Vulcans 3-3 through three-and-a half innings, only to see UH Hilo get the winning run in the fourth on a wild pitch.
 
Senior third baseman Joe Gallagher of Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo got his first home run of the season with a solo shot in the third inning of game two.
 
Game one saw sophomore righthander Shane Adams (0-2) of Honolulu/Mid-Pacific Institute get the loss allowing six runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings. Sophomore righty Stone Parker of Kailua, Hawai'i/Kailua pitched two innings allowing a run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Redshirt freshman Edward Lee of Honolulu/Kalani finished up allowing a hit in his one inning of action.
 
Freshman Haydon Huff of Riverside, Calif./Woodcrest Christian scored the only run in the first game after being hit by a pitch in the second inning and scoring on an error.
 
Junior righthander Brandon Peterson (0-1) of Stockton, Calif./Excel Academy got the loss in game two allowing four runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings. Freshman righty Daniel Cortez of Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Ranch finished up with two scoreless, hitless innings with a strikeout.
 
Christian Sadler (1-0) got the win in relief for UH Hilo, allowing one hit with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Starter Jonathan Buhl allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 2.2 innings. Cody Hirada pitched a perfect inning and Brandyn Lee-Lehano got his first save allowing one hit with two strikeouts in two innings.
 
The Sharks and Vulcans are back at it on Sunday with a doubleheader on the UH Hilo Campus at Hill Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
