HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University allowed seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings as Hawai'i Hilo took an 8-1 PacWest Conference Hawai 'I baseball victory Saturday afternoon at UH Hilo's George & Marion Hall Stadium.
The Sharks (1-8, 1-4) tied the Vulcans (4-4, 4-1) with a run in the top of the sixth before giving up three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to spell defeat.

Brandon Peterson (0-1) of Stockton, Calif./Excel Academy, had gone five strong innings before allowing a walk and back-to-back doubles to be force from the game. Peterson allowed four runs on five hits with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings. Freshman righty
Makana Quia of Waipahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu gave up a hit with two walks and a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning, while junior righthander

Jason Shiigi of Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani finished allowing only a walk in one inning.
UHH's Kyle Alcorn (2-1) allowed a run on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk in six innings. Branden Lee-Lehano struck out one in two innings, while Cody Hirata struck out the side in the final inning.
HPU junior centerfielder
Diego Harris of Los Angeles, Calif./Crespi went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Sharks and Vulcans started a second game on Saturday, with HPU leading 6-1 in the second inning when rains came and caused the game to be halted. That game will be resumed next week.
HPU and UH Hilo are scheduled to play another doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon at Hall Stadium, weather permitting.
