WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University needed an extra inning to get a doubleheader sweep against Saint Martin's on Saturday at Hans L'Orange Park.
After taking game one 9-2, the Sharks (6-1) got a bases-loaded hit batsman to beat the Saints (3-8) 4-3 in eight innings.
Freshman T.J. Smith of Sacramento, Calif./Laguna Creek picked up his fourth RBI of the day when he was hit in the bottom of the eighth in game two with the sacks jammed. Smith went 4-for-8 on Saturday at the plate. Junior
Richard Higa of Honolulu/University Lab went 3-for-7 on the day with a triple, two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs to also lead the Sharks offensively.

The second game was won in relief by junior righthander

In the fourth of the first game, the Saints scored first on a balk with a runner on third, and the Sharks tied the contest on a sacrifice fly by senior
Diego Harris of Los Angeles/Crespi. HPU took the lead in the fifth on Higa's RBI double, only to have Saint Martin's knot the game in the sixth with an unearned run.
But in the bottom of the six, HPU broke the 2-2 tie when Harris scored on a passed ball.
The Sharks broke the game open in the seventh with four unearned runs thanks to two errors, a wild pitch and an RBI groundout. The Sharks added two more runs in the eighth on Higa's RBI triple and Smith's RBI single in the 9-2 victory.
WOU starter Sam McCauley (0-3) took the loss, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits in 5.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Saint Martin's plated two runs in the top of the fourth on a RBI single and a squeeze bunt. HPU picked up one in the bottom of the inning after an error on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Coke Kashimoto of Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Saint Louis.
The Sharks grabbed two more in the bottom of the fifth on a passed ball and a sacrifice fly from Smith for a 3-2 lead. But in the top of the sixth, a two-out throwing error set up an RBI single down the right field line to tie the game.
Despite opportunities in the sixth and seventh, HPU used a leadoff walk, an error and a hit batsman to load the bases, then Harris was plunked on the second pitch he faced in the inning to drive home the winning run.
The Sharks and Saints wrap up the five-game, non-conference series on Sunday with a doubleheader at Hans L'Orange Park. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
