KANEOHE, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University closed a long home-stand on Wednesday with a doubleheader split with Holy Names at Howard Okita Field.
The Sharks (12-11, 6-4) scored five runs over their last three innings to beat the Hawks (5-26, 3-17) 6-4 in game one, but the Hawks reciprocated in game two with two runs in the third and five in the fifth to win 7-1.
Freshman
Jewel Larson of Waipahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City led the Sharks at the plate, going 3-for-3 in the first game as part of a 4-for-6 day. Junior Noel "Tita" Saunders of Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City went 2-for-6 with a triple.

Taylor Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle (8-5) picked up her fourth straight win and her 11th complete game in the first contest, allowing four unearned runs on five hits with five walks without a strikeout. Senior
Malia Torres of Danville, Calif./Monte Vista (4-6) suffered the loss in game two, recording her 10th complete game while allowing seven runs, all earned, on 11 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
The Hawks opened the first contest with an unearned run, before HPU responded in the third with an unearned run as junior
Savanna Salyer-Kovacs of Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo scored on a throwing error by the Hawks catcher in a failed pickoff attempt.
The fourth saw an HPU error allow one run to score and set up a two RBI double for a 4-1 lead. The Sharks came back with a single run in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from freshman
Tiari Hernandez of Waipahu, Hawai'i/Waipahu that cut the advantage to 4-2.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, the Sharks strung together four hits on the way to three runs as Saunders smacked her RBI triple, followed by an RBI double from freshman
Neva Poulin of Corona, Calif./Norco and a sacrifice fly by Larson to give HPU a 5-4 lead.
After getting a double play to end the top of the sixth, the Sharks came back with a Hernandez double and an RBI single from junior
Leipua Kaui of Kapa'a, Hawai 'i/Kapa'a for an insurance run and a 6-4 lead.
The Hawks went down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh for the win. HNU reliever Kelsey Volkmar (1-10) was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits with a walk and a strikeout in three innings.
The Sharks drew first blood in the nightcap, taking advantage of two HNU errors to go ahead 1-0.
But the Hawks came back against Torres in the third with three hits to add two runs for the lead.
But the back breaker for the Sharks came in the top of the fifth. With HNU still up 2-1, the Hawks got three seeing-eye singles, including a suicide squeeze bunt that scored the first run. Two more RBI singles, then an RBI single knocked off the pitcher gave Holy Names a 7-1 lead. The Sharks left two on over their next three innings.
HNU's Haighley Kissee (2-7) threw a four-hitter at the Sharks, allowing the unearned run with a strikeout.
After a 14-game home-stand, the Sharks get ready for a two-and-a half week trip to California for 17-games starting with a PacWest doubleheader at Biola next Monday. First pitch at Freedom Field is set for 11 a.m. HST (2 p.m. PDT).
