HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University held a hit parade on Sunday afternoon, collecting 30 hits in the PacWest Conference doubleheader sweep of cross-town rival Chaminade 10-6 and 9-4 at Sand Island Park.
The Sharks (22-26, 15-15) matched their season-high with 17 hits against the Silverswords (15-24, 11-19) in game one, then chalked up 13 in the second game of the double-dip.
Sophomore
Poliahu Aina of Kailua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama had the big stick on the day, going 7-for-8 in the two games with two doubles, four runs scored, and five RBIs. Junior
Brandi Leong of Wahiawa, Hawai'i/Leilehua was 5-for-10 with a double, five runs scored and two RBIs in the leadoff spot.
Senior
Malia Torres of Danville, Calif./Monte Vista (11-12) chalked up her 23rd complete game with the second game win, allowing four runs on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout. She also hurled two perfect innings in game one with two strikeouts extending her consecutive scoreless innings streak to 27.0 before allowing two runs with two out in the bottom of the first in game two.
Freshman
Taylor Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle (11-14) grabbed the win in the opening contest, allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings before yielding to Torres.

Tiari Hernandez of Waipahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City got an RBI single to start things off, followed by a safety squeeze RBI bunt single from junior
Leipua Kaui of Kapa'a, Hawai'i/Kapa'a, a Leong RBI single, and a two-RBI single from sophomore
Kanoe Tanigawa of Mililani, Hawai'i/Maryknoll.
The Swords answered with a run in the bottom of the second and two in the third before the Sharks brought out the big sticks again in the top of the fourth. With two out in the inning, Tanigawa got an RBI single, followed by another RBI single from freshman
Neva Poulin of Corona, Calif./Norco, an RBI double from Aina, and an RBI single from junior
Savanna Salyer-Kovacs of Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo for a 10-3 lead.
The Swords rallied for three runs in the fifth, but that would be all as Torres entered the circle in the sixth and set down every batter she faced.
CUH's Jaeda Cabunoc (9-13) went the distance allowing 10 runs, all earned, on 17 hits with a walk.
The Sharks picked up two runs in the first on RBI singles from Aina and Tanigawa, but the Swords snapped Torres' scorless streak with a two-RBI double down the left field line in the bottom of the opening frame to make it 2-2.
HPU retook the lead in the third after a Leong double, when Aina ripped an RBI single to center for the 2-1 advantage.
The Sharks broke open the game in the fourth with two out collecting four runs on a Leong RBI single, a two-RBI double from junior Noel "Tita" Saunders of Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City, and an Aina RBI single for a 7-2 lead.
Chaminade responded with runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth before the Sharks posted two insurance runs on a two-RBI double from Tanigawa for the 9-4 lead. Chaminade got a baserunner in both the six and seventh innings, but Torres shut down the threat.
Sword pitcher Taylor Genera (6-9) earned the loss in a complete game allowing nine runs on 13 hits with five walks.
HPU did not strike out in either game.
The Sharks wrap-up the 2022 season on Friday afternoon on the Big Island when they face Hawai'i Hilo in a PacWest doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for Noon at the UHH Softball Field.
