Women's Tennis Falls to Defending Champs Barry in Semifinal 4-3

KEARNEY, Neb.  The Hawaii Pacific University women's tennis team fell to defending national champion Barry University 4-3 on Saturday evening at Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.

The Sharks (5-3) battled went the distance with the Bucs (6-0) coming down to the final dual of the evening to determine a winner.

Doubles Competition
HPU continued to exert its dominance in doubles with the one and two courts. Pipa Shaline and Marleen Tilgner are a perfect 7-0 on their season as they finished off Daniela Farfan and Deniz Khazan 6-3. On court two Elodie Busson and Abigail Wild mirrored their teammates with a 6-3 win over Nathalia Gasparin and Dinara Alloyarova.

Singles Competition
Barry jumped on their opportunities in singles with quick wins on court five and six to regain the points leads 2-1. Shaline on court one showed why she is one of the top players in the country once again as she took straight sets 6-3, 7-5 over Khazan. Busson took an extra set but defeated Alloiarova 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 and regained the 3-2 lead.

With only two courts left Wild jumped out to a set one win but dropped the second. Locked in for a potential match-winning set she came up short falling 6-4, 5-7, 2-6. With it coming down to court three. Xiyao Want and Tilgner went three sets to determine a winner. The Bucs came out on top as Wang defeated Tilgner 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 to advance to the championship match.

The Sharks will play in the third-place match tomorrow morning at 10:30 am HT against the University of North Georgia.
