IRVINE, Calif. –– The Hawaii Pacific University softball team (0-5) played in their final matchup of the Concordia Kickoff Classic Sunday morning against Cal State University San Marcos. HPU got some hits, but could not find the runs as they fell 2-0 to CSUSM. The teams continued play at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California.
San Marcos' offensive effort was spread out throughout the day, scoring one run in the third, and another one in the seventh. The Cougars'' pitching staff had an excellent day, shutting out the Sharks. HPU did have a hit in five of the seven innings, but were not able to capitalize with any runs.
Sophomore Taylor Thompson got the start in the circle for the Sharks and pitched a complete game. Thompson gave up two runs, both of them being earned. She also struck out five batters while only walking three.

Hoku Ching, and freshman
Alexis Oshiro each had a hit for Hawaii Pacific, who served as the home team during the contest.

The Sharks have two more games in California before they make their way back to the islands. They will compete in a double-header matchup against the CSU-Dominguez Hills Toros, tomorrow, February 6th. First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 p.m. PST in Carson, California at the Toro Diamond.
