Kailua, Oahu – The number nine ranked Hawaii Pacific University Men's tennis team opened the spring season with a clean 7-0 sweep of Holy Names on Thursday morning at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The Sharks (1-0, PacWest 1-0) open the season with three conference matchups to before heading to Indiana for the ITA Indoor National Championships.
Hawaii began the doubles matchups with a quick 6-0 win from duo
Riku Ogasawara and
Robin Sanz, followed shortly behind by
Jakub Beran and
Cheng-Chieh Wang taking down Patrick Wnuk and Ellison Greco 6-1. HPU's
Jan Heine and
Benjamin Loccisano match finished incomplete with a 4-1 lead due to clinching the doubled point.
It was domination for the men in the singles category with no player giving up more than 2 games in a set across all six duals.
Jan Heine disposed of Patrick Wnuk 6-1, 6-1 in just 37 minutes to kickstart the winning and not long after HPU clinched the match with
Mile Matic's 6-1, 6-2 victory over Regnar Madarang. The Sharks ate up the rest of the competition finishing 7-0 on the day.
The Sharks are back in action again tomorrow with UH Hilo at the Kailua Racquet Club, first serve is set for 4:00 p.m. HT.
