POINT LOMA – The Hawaii Pacific University men's tennis team fell short 4-3 against Point Loma Nazarene University Tuesday afternoon at Biola Tennis Courts.
The Sharks and Sea Lions came down to the final match to determine a winner.
Double Competition
The Heine bros were defeated 6-3 by Tyler Davis and Alexander Leischner on court one to begin the duals.
Benjamin Loccisano and
Jakub Beran evened the match up with a 6-1 win over Alejandro Casteneda and Nabeel Khan on court three.
Robin Sanz and
Riku Ogasawara could not find their footing and fell 6-3 to Fabian Penzkofer and Elias week as the Sea Lions took the doubles point.
Singles Competition
Loma's Penzkofer defeated
Jan Heine 6-3, 6-1 to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Loccisano put away Andrew Suver in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 getting the Sharks on the board. Beran faltered in set one and battled in the second but would not be enough as Davis took it in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 putting Point Loma one point away from a win.
Sanz on the two's court was on point and took down Lieschner 6-3, 7-6 to keep the match alive. Ogasawara did his best taking down Davis Strassburger 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 giving HPU a chance to take the win. Point Loma's Nabeel Khan had other ideas as he took down Jack Wang in three sets 6-4, 7-6, 6-0.
Up next for the Sharks is Concordia, with first serve set for noon tomorrow.
