Men's Tennis Headed to PacWest Championship after 4-1 Victory Over CUI

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Hawaii Pacific University mens tennis team defeated Concordia University Irvine 4-1 to advance to the PacWest Championship Finals on Friday afternoon at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.

The Sharks return to the Championship match for the second year in a row but look for redemption as they took home second place last year.

Doubles Competition
The Golden Eagles were no match for the Sharks as they defeated them in all three matchups. Jakub Beran and Benjamin Loccisano downed Alexander Edmonston and Julius Seifert 6-1. Mile Matic and Jack Wang were flawless over James Caddies and Tim Nutz 6-0. Simultaneous finishes had Riku Ogasawara and Robin Sanz adding a non-consequential third win 6-2 over Leon Czarikau and Mike Jansen.

Singles Competition
Matic kept the gas pedal down and defeated James Caddie in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 for the first singles win of the day. Loccisano got in the win column over Jansen 6-2, 6-1 to put the Sharks one win away from returning to the finals. Beran first suffered a loss on court two 6-3, 6-2, but teammate Sanz was there to back him up and took down Czarnikau 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
