Women's Tennis Season Ends After 4-2 Semifinal Loss to Nova Southeastern

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hawaii Pacific University women's tennis team ended their championship run after a 4-2 semifinal loss to Nova Southeastern University on Monday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.

The Sharks came up shy of the National title game and concluded another incredibly successful season that saw them return to glory with their third PacWest title. HPU, unable to get past NSU for the second straight year, held the advantage early with the doubles point win, while they struggled in singles for the first time all post-season.

Abigail Wild and Elodie Busson had a sensational year and improved their dynamic duo record to 16-3 with a 6-2 victory. Shaline Pipa and Marleen Tilgner battled it out, with Natalie Espinal and Fatima Bizhukova taking it down the wire for a 7-6 victory.

With the doubles point locked up, the Sharks were three matches from victory, but NSU started fast with Karolina Snita defeating Tilgner 6-0, 6-1. Busson fell to Espinal on court two in straight sets at well 6-3, 7-6. Pipa dominated on court one to keep Hawaii in the hunt. However, Wild would fall on court four in 6-4, 7-6, and lose the set two tiebreaker.

The Sharks bid farewell to six seniors as they will reboot and gear up for their return in the 2023-24 season and another run at their first national title. For schedule releases and updates check out hpusharks.com later this summer.
