Azusa, CA - Hawaii Pacific defeated Azusa Pacific 14-9 on
February 20th. After a tough couple of games, the Sharks exploded for 14 runs marked by a 7 run 3rd inning which was capped off by a 3 run homer by
Andrew Nykoluk. HPU was powered by their ability to score in many ways throughout the game at times relying on bunting and taking extra bases to advance runners, while also being able to drive the ball for extra bases and score runners with 2 outs. Azusa was able to answer back after the Sharks bounced out to a 10 run lead thanks to home runs from
Antonio Lujan and
Mikey Easter, but the Sharks were able to push across 4 in the bottom of the 7th for some insurance runs that sealed the deal.
The Sharks were led by
Andrew Nykoluk's 5 RBI day.
Kan Taguchi and
Noah Blythe also both had 4 hit games while
Skyler Agnew scored 3 runs.Â
Luigi Albano-Dito had a great outing in his first start of the season while
Vicente Molina and
Cristian Padilla got outs out of the pen before
Makana Quia came in to shut the door. The Sharks did the little things right today as they stole 5 bases and turned some big double plays late in the game.
The Sharks will look to keep this momentum rolling into tomorrow
February 21st as they play 2 against APU.
