Utsugi enters his first year as head coach of the women's golf program. Utsugi becomes the second coach in program history.
Utsugi most recently has led the varsity golf program at Hawaii Baptist Academy; previous to that he guided the junior varsity squad at HBA.

Most importantly, he is a person of impeccable integrity who cares about young people. We could not have found a better candidate for this position. I am confident our program, which is only in its second year, is poised for tremendous growth under Jim's leadership,” said then HPU Athletics Director Darren Vorderbruegge.
Utsugi is a graduate of Iolani School; he then attended Loyola Marymount University where he earned his degree in Business Administration. He returned to Hawaii and later achieved his Master's in Business Administration from Chaminade University.
Professionally, Utsugi spent six years in business development before advancing to sales management where he has worked for the last two decades.
A family man, Utsugi is married to Susan and has two daughters, Noel and Sara.
