Roger Javillo

Javillo started coaching at HPU during 2003-2004 season as volunteer pitching coach. Javillo has made five NCAA Regional appearances with HPU, at CSU-Bakersfield, at CSU-Stanislaus, at Dixie State, and twice at home. He also was on the coaching staff as an assistant coach (pitching) which won the National Championship in 2010.

Javillo has experience at various local high schools – Maryknoll (seven years), Punahou (three years), Iolani (six years) and Kamehameha (one year). From 2006-09, Javillo coached both HPU and high school at the same time. He also coached Junior Olympic ASA teams Rebels 12U, 14U, and 16U and Local Pride 18U.

As a player he pitched for Nakamura Auto Body, a men’s fast pitch team, which won the ASA State Men’s C Fast Pitch Championship.

Javillo was also an ASA Division I and II umpire for 19 years. He served as the ASA Umpire in Chief for Hawaii for six years and has umpired in four National ASA Tournaments. His greatest thrill was when he umpired in several Hawaii Cup tournaments in which the national teams from USA, Japan, Canada, China, Australia, Greece, and Chinese Taipei participated in.

He graduated from Kohala High School on the Big Island, lettering in basketball, baseball, football, and track for the Cowboys. Attended UH Hilo for two semesters and summer session and played basketball. He is a Vietnam combat veteran. Javillo enlisted in the Army Reserve, 100Bn/442 Inf. and activated in1968 and assigned to the 2/14 Infantry, 25th Div. in 1969 Cuchi, Vietnam.

Outside of coaching Javillo is employed by First Hawaiian Bank as the Printing Department Manager. He resides in Makiki with his wife Wendy. He has two daughters,  (Kimberly and Robyne), two grandsons (Joshua and Josiah) and two granddaughters (Kaya and Hina).
