Sharks Alumn, Marco Perez, joined the Hawaii Pacific University as one of the assistant coaches in the 2014 season. He joined after competing in two successful years for the Sharks, two successful years for the Butte College Roadrunners and one successful year as the assistant coach for the Butte Cross Country team.
In his time as a Road Runner he helped lead his team to win two consecutive conference championships. In 2012, he placed first in the Golden Valley Conference for the 5k and 10k in Track and Field. In his year of service to Head Coach Seth Roberts at Butte College, Perez helped coach the men’s and women’s teams to continue their streak as the Golden Valley Conference Champions.
In his time as a Shark he served as a leader both on the track and off the track. His senior year he held the title of Team Captain and helped the Sharks finish second place in the PacWest Conference, the highest placing in half a decade. Perez finished off his senior with a bang, making the All-PacWest Conference Team. Off the track he was an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) that was awarded for their outstanding community service within the PacWest Conference.
Originally from Live Oak, California. Perez graduated from Hawaii Pacific with a degree in anthropology and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in hopes of becoming a head cross country coach for a NCAA school.
