Ed Kageyama starts his sixth season as Hawai‘i Pacific University’s men’s and women’s head golf coach. He was named to the position in December, 2019.
Kageyama is a 25-year Class A PGA professional who brings extensive coaching experience to HPU. Having worked in the golf industry for three decades, Kageyama’s coaching experience has taken him beyond Hawaii to many states on the mainland and countries in the Pacific Rim.
Kageyama has worked throughout the U.S. and Asia however, he is possibly best known for his coaching as Punahou School’s golf program director encompassing eight teams and roughly 90 golfers ranging from grades 7-12.
Through Kageyama’s 13-season tenure at Punahou, the program has won 17 state team titles which includes 11 girls team state titles and 10 individual state titles. His teams have also won two team championships and two individual trophies at the Antigua National High School Invitational in Arizona.
In addition to coaching at Punahou, Kageyama is a principal with Activiter, Hawaii Golf Experience and Hawaii Golf Advisors. Other work experience includes nearly 20 years as Billy Casper Golf’s Hawaii & Asia-Pacific Regional Manager, having led the operations at Ka’anapali Golf Courses, Puakea Golf Course, Coral Creek Golf Course, Kukuiolono Park & Golf Course, Kauai Lagoons Golf Course, Minami Golf Course (now Ko‘olau Golf Course), Luana Hills (Royal Hawaiian Golf Club), Turtle Bay Golf Resort and golf facilities in China, Korea, Vietnam and Macau.
