Jenic Tumaneng

Jenic Tumaneng is in his nineth season as the head volleyball coach at Hawai‘i Pacific University, being named to the permanent spot on Dec. 1, 2016 after leading the Sharks during the 2016 season as the interim head coach.
 
Tumaneng’s teams perform in the classroom as well, with Hawai‘i Pacific honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. The award is presented to teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team gradeipoint average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire school year.
 
Tumaneng is a coaching veteran on Oahu, with more than 25 years of experience at the club, high school and collegiate levels.
 
Prior to being named interim head coach, Tumaneng was the first assistant at HPU since 2012, heavily involved in recruiting, floor strategy, player skill development and match scouting. Tumaneng came to HPU after serving as head coach/program director at ‘Iolani High School in Honolulu for six seasons from 2006-2011. During his tenure, ‘Iolani posted a record of 184-43 and an 81.1 winning percentage. His teams placed in the top three in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) every season and was ranked among the postseason Top 10 in Hawai‘i all six seasons. His ‘Iolani teams were team finalists for the American Volleyball Coaches Association High School Academic Team Award from 2008-2011.
 
He led the Raiders to the 2007 ILH regular season championship on their way to the championship match of the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association. The Raiders finished 41-6 in 2007, earning a PrepVolleyball.com national ranking of 39th as Tumaneng was named the ILH and Hawai’i State Coach of the Year.
 
Tumaneng started his high school coaching career at his alma mater, Honolulu’s Farrington High, in 1991. He posted a record of 295-105 in 15 seasons (.738) as the varsity head coach/ program director. He led the Governors to three Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) championships (1995, 1999, 2000) and 12 consecutive HHSAA State Tournaments. He was selected as the OIA Coach of the Year three times as well.
 
Very involved in junior club volleyball in Hawai‘i, Tumaneng has coached with the Asics Rainbows, Outriggers Canoe Club, Oahu Volleyball Club, Impact Hawai‘i, and Aloha Region High Performance. His teams have gained numerous awards and honors at the USA Nationals, Junior Olympics, AAU National Championships and USA High Performance Championships. In 2016, he led the Aloha Region Girls National Youth to a gold medal championship.
 
Tumaneng is a 1998 graduate of Hawai‘i Pacific University, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration-Human Resource Management. A Honolulu native, Tumaneng and his wife Erica have two children, son Christopher and daughter Jordan.
