HONOLULU, (May 19, 2015) – Hawai'i Pacific Baseball ace Rico Garcia has been selected to the 2015 Daktronics Division II West Region Second Team.

Garcia, HPU's Male Athlete of the Year and a member of the All-PacWest First Team, was dominant all season. The Kapolei native made 10 starts and gave up more than three runs only once, in half his starts Garcia gave up one or fewer earned runs. The junior hurler struck out nine or more in five of his outings. On April 10th vs. UH Hilo, Garcia was at his best when he threw a complete game two-hitter striking out 11 while walking just one.

He finished the season second in the PacWest in earned run average (2.18) and opposing batting average (.186). He also ranked eighth in wins (six) and fifth in strikeouts (87). Garcia was selected as the PacWest Pitcher of the Week twice this season.

Despite only playing three seasons, Garcia holds all of HPU's strikeout records. He struck out 16 in a single-game last season in March. He broke his own single-season strikeout record this season with 87. His 217 punch outs in a career are also tops in school history.

This is Garcia's first regional honor, he was also on the 2014 All-PacWest Team.
