Guillem Vinas Marin, or Willie as he’s known around HPU soccer circles, earned this week’s Player of the Week after a gutsy performance against Holy Names University on Saturday November 3rd scoring a goal and an assist in the match.
Despite dominating play, the Sea Warriors senior Day match appeared to be headed towards a draw after giving up two penalty kicks. HPU’s final chance came after Holy Names was charged with a yellow card with just six seconds left setting up a kick from about 25 yards out. Willie sent the ball to the far post and it snuck in the net with just four seconds remaining on the clock, giving the Sea Warriors the win on Senior Day. Marin, who has been gutting out a knee injury for the past few games, was mobbed by his teammates after the improbable goal.
With the goal and assist against Holy Names, Willie finishes his first season with the Sea Warriors ranked fourth in points with eight and will be a key returner for the 2013 season.
