For the second consecutive week, Hawai’i Pacific University forward Sven Koenig has been selected as a Pacific West Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his superb play last week.
Koenig, a 6-0 sophomore from Schuerte, Germany/Friedrich Bahrens Gymnasium, was honored as the PacWest Co-Player of the Week. Koenig continued his scoring binge as he picked up his second career hat trick and second in three games with his three goals against Hawai’i-Hilo in a 4-4 double overtime tie with the Vulcans. Koening opened the scoring in the 11th minute, and added goals in the 55th and 72nd minute for the Sharks, scoring on three of his six shots on goal. Koenig has scored in each of the Sharks seven games this season and leads HPU and the PacWest with 11 goals, 23 points and 42 shots. Koenig is third in the NCAA in goals per game (1.57), points per game (3.29) and shots per game (6.0), while ranking fifth in total goals and total points.
Joining Koenig as the men’s co-player of the week is sophomore midfielder Gabby Medina of Dixie State.
