Monmouth, OR (11/19/10) – At the Western Oregon/Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout, the HPU men's basketball team fell to Saint Martin's University, 80-67. HPU falls to 1-1 while SMU improves to 3-1.

LaBrent Chappell dropped a team-high 19 points on 6-9 shooting to lead HPU. Kyle Allen posted 16 points and Nick Frazier added 13 points.

Roger O'Neil led Saint Martin's, scoring a game-high 23 points on 4-8 shooting from three-point range.

HPU trailed early but responded to take a five-point lead on a Kyle Allen three-pointer. The Mustangs countered with 11 unanswered points to grab a 26-20 lead with 7:54 remaining. The Sea Warriors then made a run of their own and cut the advantage to 39-37 on a basket and a foul by Chappell to close the half.

HPU remained close for much of the second half, but after a layup by Jeremy Greene with 4:10 remaining, SMU led 73-61.

The Sea Warriors return to action tomorrow, November 20, versus tournament host Western Oregon University. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
