HPU Women’s Volleyball Defeats Academy Of Art

Honolulu, HI (11/4/10) – At Saint Andrew's Priory, the HPU women's volleyball team defeated Academy of Art University, 3-1 (34-32, 25-21, 22-25, 25-12). HPU improves to 17-5 overall and 11-4 in the PacWest while AAU drops to 13-11 and 7-6.

Sanoe Recca recorded 10 kills in the opening game which HPU won in thrilling fashion. She finished with 18 for the match. Natasha Bell posted 13 kills and 15 digs, and Pihana Kea added 45 assists.

Dan Yang led AAU with 15 kills.

In game one, HPU held a 19-15 lead but the Urban Knights responded to lead to the exciting finish. With the game tied at 32-32, Recca unleashed her ninth and 10th kills to give HPU the win.

HPU won another tight contest in game two, but AAU scored a victory in the third game. HPU's game four win proved to be the most lopsided of the match, as the Sea Warriors recorded seven straight points midway through the game to assume control.

Kyra Pelayo posted a team-high 20 digs and Courtney Curran added seven kills and five blocks.

HPU next faces off with the University of Hawai'i-Manoa tomorrow, November 5, at the Stan Sheriff Center. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. The match will be broadcasted live on KFVE (Ch. 5) and streamed at http://uhstreaming.oceanic.com.
