Laie, HI (12/9/10) – In the opening game of the Hawai'i Challenge, the HPU men's basketball team was defeated by Chaminade, 74-56. HPU falls to 3-4 overall while the Silverswords improve to 6-4. The game was played at the Canon Activities Center on the campus of BYU-Hawaii.
Jason Jackson scored a team-high 19 points for the Sea Warriors, shooting 8-18 from the floor while also grabbing 13 rebounds. Nick Frazier added 10 points on 4-10 shooting.
Shane Hanson led Chaminade with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
HPU fell behind early and never recovered. The Sea Warriors cut the Sword lead in the first half to four points on a pair of free throws by Adrian den Dulk, but Hanson's three-pointer gave Chaminade a 35-26 halftime lead. Den Dulk posted seven points and four rebounds.
The Sea Warriors will play the loser of BYU-Hawaii and UH-Hilo tomorrow for third place in the tournament. Tip off at McCabe Gym on the campus of Chaminade is set for 5:00 p.m.
