Honolulu (11/6/09) – The HPU men's soccer team has had one of its best seasons in school history, and now enters its season finale with a shot at the PacWest title. With just two losses, HPU has affirmed itself as Hawai'i's top collegiate team, and pose a threat to perennial PacWest powers Grand Canyon and Notre Dame de Namur.
To clinch a share of the PacWest Championship, HPU first needs a win over BYU-Hawai'i. The Sea Warriors then need favorable results from a pair of mainland matches. Grand Canyon, who has already clinched a share of the title, must lose to Academy of Art, and NDNU needs to tie or lose to Dixie State.
HPU has certainly done its part to this point. They have an unbeaten streak of seven matches which includes a win over NDNU and a draw versus Grand Canyon, and have not lost at home since 2007. Striker
Chance Bukoski is second in the PacWest with 12 goals, and goalkeeper
Matt Terry boasts a conference-high .820 save percentage with 41 saves and a PacWest low nine goals against.
HPU's season finale against BYU-Hawai'i takes place tomorrow, Saturday, at 3:00 p.m. The match will be at Atherton Field on the HPU Hawai'i Loa Campus. Following the match, the Sea Warriors will honor seniors
