Laie, HI (11/12/09) – At the Canon Activities Center on the BYU-Hawai'i campus, the HPU women's volleyball team defeated the Lady Seasiders, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20). HPU improves to 13-11 overall and 10-5 in the PacWest, and BYUH falls to 13-14 overall and 9-7 in conference.
Kelly Balanay posted a match-high 13 kills for HPU, with
Julia Gruszecka adding 12 kills of her own. Losaline Faka'osi led BYUH with 11 kills. The Sea Warriors broke away midway through each game to earn the sweep. In game one, a Gruszecka kill broke a 17-17 tie and started an 8-2 run to give HPU a 1-0 lead.
Game two was much closer, but a pair of kills by Kelly Balanay and
Sanoe Recca (2 K) gave HPU the win.
Mariana Souza recorded six kills and
Tricia Yoshimura added 10 digs. Nobuko Kotoyori posted a match-high 22 digs for BYUH.
The Sea Warriors will play their season finale this Saturday, November 14. Following the match, HPU will honor seniors

Kelly Keating,
Aimee Tresierra, and
Shawntell Jones for their contributions to HPU volleyball. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Andrew's Priory, and will be broadcasted live on KWHE-TV 14 and AM 1500 radio.
