HPU Men's Soccer Rallies To Top Chaminade
Honolulu (9/16/10) – The HPU men's soccer team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Chaminade University, 4-2. The match was the conference opener for both teams, as HPU improves to 2-1 overall while the Swords drop to 1-2.
HPU opened the scoring in the fifth minute, as Richard Guffens (Leiden, The Netherlands) collected his second goal of the season off a corner kick from Linus Ekden (Lidkoping, Sweden). Chaminade responded with two goals by Michael Marrs and entered halftime with a 2-1 lead.
In the 56
th minute, Guffens was taken down in the penalty area, and
George Fochive (Washington D.C.) netted the ensuing penalty kick to tie the match.
Chance Bukoski (Kapaa, HI) scored the gamewinner on a through ball from
Jimmy Baggett (Bainbridge Island, WA), then added an insurance goal just before full time. The goals were Bukoski's third and fourth of the season, as he pounded nine shots with six on target.
Hayes Sperry saved 10 of HPU's 24 shots, while HPU goalkeeper Kay Flache (Schweinfurt, Germany) recorded two saves.
The Sea Warriors return to action this Saturday, September 18, versus BYU-Hawaii. Start time at Atherton Field is set for 12:30 p.m.
