Kaneohe, HI (9/25/10) – At Atherton Field, the HPU men's soccer team defeated Academy of Art University, 5-0. The Sea Warriors improve to 3-0 in the PacWest and 4-1 overall, while the Urban Knights drop to 0-4 in conference and 1-6 overall.
The Sea Warriors poured in four goals in the first half before winning their most lopsided contest with AAU. Richard Guffens (Leiden, The Netherlands) opened the scoring in the third minute, knocking a cross from George Fochive (Washington D.C.) in past AAU keeper Daniel Waller. Fochive grabbed a goal of his own less than four minutes later, thenKimo Komomua (Honolulu, HI) scored HPU's third goal to give the Sea Warriors a 3-0 lead less than 22 minutes into the match.
Kay Flache (Schweinfurt, Germany) combined with Clinton Steinhoff (Casa Grande, Arizona) in goal for the shutout.
Chance Bukoski (Kapaa, HI) posted three assists with Isaiah Guth (Wailuku, Maui) adding one goal and one assist. Freshman Jimmy Baggett (Bainbridge Island, WA) recorded his first collegiate goal, scoring on a through pass from Guffens in the 68th.
HPU outshot AAU 18-4 on the afternoon.
The Sea Warriors next travel to the mainland for a six-game road trip. First up will be Dixie State College this Thursday, September 30. Kick off in St. George, Utah is set for 4:30 Mountain Standard Time.
