St. George, UT (9/30/10) – Chance Bukoski (Kapaa, HI) scored on a header just before halftime, as the HPU men's soccer team defeated Dixie State, 1-0. The match was played at Hansen Stadium on the campus of Dixie State College. The Sea Warriors improve to 4-0 in the PacWest and 5-1 overall, while the Red Storm drops to 2-2-1 in conference and 2-5-1 overall.
Just before the end of the first half, HPU was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area.Nathan Scott (Phoenix, AZ) served the ball right to the head of Bukoski who scored with six seconds on the clock. “It was a gritty win by the guys,” said Head Coach Chris Fisher. “It wasn't a pretty game but our defense was solid.”
Kay Flache (Schweinfurt, Germany) recorded three saves in the match for his third shutout of the season. Tyler Walters posted three saves for the Red Storm.
HPU outshot Dixie State 8-5.
Fisher was very complimentary of centerback Kainoa Kahui (Kona, HI). “Kainoa was the man of the match for us. Dixie State played a lot of long balls to our backline and he was there to intercept every one of them.”
HPU takes on Dixie State one more time before heading to Phoenix for two matches against Grand Canyon. The two teams play Saturday, October 2, at 4:30 p.m.
