Waipahu, HI (9/4/10) – At the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium, the HPU men's soccer team defeated Cal State East Bay, 4-0. Chance Bukoski scored two goals to lead the Sea Warriors past the Pioneers, who fell to 1-1.
HPU outshot East Bay 29-2 in the lopsided affair, posting two goals in each half for the win. Newcomer Richard Guffens added two assists and scored the game-opening goal off a corner kick from Nathan Scott.
East Bay crippled itself late in the first half, as midfielder Steven Belalcazar was ejected after elbowing Linus Ekden in the face. Early in the second half, Bukoski scored two goals less than two minutes apart to seal the win.
Luis Jungo scored HPU's second goal in the 29th minute, punching a short service from Guffens into the back of the net.
CSUEB goalkeeper Patrick Gilbertson posted eight saves on the evening, while HPU keeper Kay Flache kept a clean sheet with two saves in his HPU debut.
HPU retakes the field this Monday, September 6, versus Northwest Nazarene University. Kickoff at Atherton Field on the Hawai'i Loa Campus is set for 3:00 p.m.
