HPU Men’s Basketball Falls At Horn

Honolulu, HI (1/10/11) – The HPU men's basketball team fell in the conference opener to Notre Dame de Namur by a 61-59 count. In a nip and tuck game, HPU thought they had another buzzer beater. As time expired, Royal Edwards put back a rebound for the win, initially signaled good by the referee. After a conference with the other referees, the basket was waived off. The loss drops HPU's record to 5-8, 0-1 while the win ups NDNU's record to 3-11, 1-3.

HPU's bigs led the charge with 14 points and seven rebounds from senior Royal Edwards, and 10 points and seven rebounds from senior Jason Jackson. Sophomore Kyle Allen turned in a game high 11 rebounds to go with seven points.

Jeff Ford led the Argonauts with 18 points.                                      

The Sea Warriors found themselves down by five at the half, but battled back in the second half. HPU built a seven point lead on a three point hit by junior Nick Frazier with 12:11 to play. HPU went down by five with 1:11 left but rallied to force the dramatics at the buzzer.

Junior LaBrent Chappell chipped in with eight points and four assists.

The Sea Warriors retake the court on Wednesday January 12. Start time at the Neal Blaisdell Center is set at 7:30 p.m. after the HPU women's basketball game.
