HPU Men's Basketball Starts Hot, Notches Win
Honolulu, HI (1-12-11) – The Sea Warriors came out of the locker room on a mission, and came away with a 78-60 over Academy of Art at the Neil Blaisdell Center. Sharp shooting from the Sea Warriors was key as HPU shot 48% from the field and 57% from three-point range. HPU evened its conference record to 1-1, and improved its overall record to 6-8. AAU dropped to 3-11, 0-4.
Three Sea Warriors registered double figure scoring games, paced by junior Nick Frazier who dropped 14 points, including 2-3 from deep. Sophomore Kyle Allen and senior Royal Edwards scored 13 and 11 points respectively. Edwards, along with senior Jason Jackson also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Keith Davis and Ivan Prema led AAU with 13 points each.
HPU dominated the game from the outset, going up 23-3 just seven and a half minutes into the contest. The Sea Warriors kept up the intensity, and headed to the locker room up 42-23 at the half. By the 12:47 mark of the second half the lead had ballooned to 25, and the Sea Warriors never looked back.
HPU forcefully controlled the glass, out rebounding AAU 44-26.
HPU next plays this Friday, January 14th against Dominican University at the Canon Activities Center on the campus of BYU-Hawaii in Laie.
