Soccer Teams Swept

Honolulu, HI (October 17, 2011) – It was not a memorable day for the Hawai'i Pacific's soccer teams as they both lost by a 2-0 score. California Baptist, in its first trip to Hawai'i as a member of the PacWest, was impressive.

In the women's match, HPU and CBU played a scoreless first half, although the stats favored the Lancers. Twenty-five seconds into the second half, CBU broke through with a goal. In the 71st minute, CBU went up 2-0 on Fabiola da Silva's goal. The Sea Warriors were unable to respond.

HPU was outshot 19-7 and lost the corner kick battle 5-1. Carianne Makino had seven saves in goal. Meghan Fuller managed two shots, both on goal.

The women's team falls to 8-3-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the PacWest.

The men's team gave up two goals in the opening half, but played much better in the second half. In the 9th minute CBU's Alex Anderson gave the Lancers the lead. Then, a minute before half, CBU made it a 2-0 match. HPU kept fighting, putting nine shots on goal in the second half, but they were all turned away by Joey Pacheco.

HPU outshot CBU 14-13. Chance Bukoski had four shots, all of them on goal. Mael Lefebvre had five saves for HPU.

The men's team is now 10-4, 7-2.

Both teams are back in action in Wednesday against Dixie State at Atherton Field at 12:30 PM for the women and 3:00 PM for the men.
