Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Red Storm

Honolulu, HI (October 19, 2011) – Hawai'i Pacific got goals from Heimana Chene and Linus Ekden and prevailed 2-0 over Dixie State College to stay in the PacWest title hunt. HPU is now 11-4 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest.

Chene scored his fifth goal of the season, second most on the team, in the 28th minute. George Fochive set up Chene with his third assist of the year, Fochive is now tied for second on the team in assists. About 10 minutes later, Ekden found the back of the net for the second time this year. Truls Lystad picked up his team-leading fourth assist on the goal. HPU led 2-0 at halftime and kept DSC at bay in the second half.

HPU had many other opportunities to score, but DSC's Tyler Walters made 12 saves, some of them spectacular. HPU outshot DSC 18-10 and had six more corner kick than the Red Storm.

Mael Lefebvre had four stops in goal for HPU. Chene had six shots while Lystad managed four.

DSC drops to 7-4-2 overall and loses for the first time in conference play (6-1).

HPU will next host BYU-Hawai'i in the Hawai'i Challenge Cup final on Friday at 3:00 PM. at Atherton Field.
