Box Score Honolulu, HI (December 18, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball team only yielded 44 points in Sunday's 51-44 win over Viterbo University. HPU forced 17 turnovers while holding VU to 17-44 (39%) from the field.
HPU almost lead wire to wire, except for a brief 4-2 deficit early in the contest. However, the game was tight in the first half, with HPU opening up its biggest lead, 10, as the halftime horn sounded. It was
LaBrent Chappell who heaved a shot from half court and banked it in to beat the buzzer. Viterbo would battle back to tie the game at 30 with 11:35 left to play. However, an 8-0 HPU run that was capped by a Ronnie Hodge layup gave the Sea Warriors breathing room. HPU would go on to lead by 12 several times before closing out the game.
Fran Urli was strong in the post, scoring 14 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Urli converted on six of his 11 attempts. HPU was typically balanced on offense with Chappell scoring 10 points and
Glenn Miller,
Kyle Allen and Hodge each registering eight points.
The Sea Warriors are now 3-4 on the season as VU drops to 6-7.
HPU returns to action tomorrow against Bethany College at Moanalua High School at 7 PM.
