Men’s Basketball Battles, but Falls Late

Box Score Honolulu, HI (December 4, 2011) – Hawai'i Pacific gave Chaminade all they could handle, but lost a close game 75-71. The game was the first PacWest Conference matchup of the year and was played at Moanalua High School.

A layup by Glenn Miller gave HPU a 17-16 lead with 10:22 left in the first half. After that, HPU controlled the rest of the first half, going to the break with a seven point lead. The second half started off well for HPU as they extended the lead to 13 at 51-38 on another Miller lay in. By the 10:04 mark, Chaminade completed its comeback and took a 57-56 lead. HPU continued to fight, but would not regain the lead.

HPU again got balanced production, with four Sea Warriors registering double figure points. Kyle Allen and Miller each had 14 points to lead HPU. Nick Frazier added 13 points as LaBrent Chappell had 10. Miller had his best game in an HPU uniform as he also had a game-high 11 rebounds. Jelany White passed out four assists without committing a turnover.
 
The Sea Warriors won the rebounding battle 34-32, but had one more turnover than did Chaminade (15-14). HPU continued to shoot the ball well going 26-55 (47%); however Chaminade shot 29-55 (53%).

Chaminade lifts its record to 3-3 and 1-0 in conference play. Matt Cousins had a game-high 24 points before fouling out.

HPU is now 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the PacWest. HPU will return to the floor on December 18th against Viterbo University. The game is scheduled for 7 PM at Moanalua High School.
